I found a treasure SWAC in the middle of Westbank // Art Gallery & Gift Shop
Have you ever started shopping for something very specific - so specific, in fact, that you aren’t sure if it actually exists? That was me recently. I was in search of a very small piece of local art for a farewell gift. Flat, light, within my budget, and Okanagan-y. I was just about to give up when I visited the SWAK Art Gallery and Gift Shop in West Kelowna – a hidden treasure of locally created works of art.
SWAC (The Suk’wtəmsqilxw West Kelowna Arts Council) is made up of a diverse group of volunteers passionate about Okanagan culture and the promotion of its people. They seek to bring together Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists, friends and businesses by creating a space to create (ask about their workshops), admire, and purchase.
Established in 2015, the organization is a non-profit, aiming to create a thriving hub for art and culture on Kelowna’s Westside. With a wide variety of works, there is something for everyone in terms of style and budget. So much to appreciate, even if you’re not in shopping mode. The welcoming volunteer staff would love to have you drop by and say hello. (SWAC also has a Gallery in the departures lounge at YLW.)
They would also like to extend an invitation to their Christmas show, December 8, 9 & 10 at the Gallery. Check their website for more details.
